  • highlights:  Wide car-free pavement with beautiful views across the largest lake in the Hudson Valley, and of the highest summits in the Catskill mountains.

  • characteristics:  Flat.  Nearly half the route (1 mile each way) is off-road on a wide paved path -- see photos -- and more than half (1.3 miles each way) is on a wide paved road closed to motor vehicles.  About a hundred yards (to be done twice) is on a public road open to motor vehicles -- in the middle between the two car-free halves (and some people skip it by staying only one of the two halves, perhaps repeating it for more exercise).

  • warning:  Riding a bicycle on roads -- and off roads -- is risky.  See Notes on Bicycle Road Riding about some of the risks, and also some other helpful ideas.
