Variation

   

  To visit a sandy beach on the Hudson River: Go East on the road that parallels Rondout Creek. Becomes E Strand St, turns L and becomes North St. Turn R on Delaware Ave and go East to the beach. Return the same way.  (need skills for tricky crossings of railroad tracks on Strand St)  Adds about 3Mi to route. (but Variation Q is prettier) [non checked by us since 2002]

To shorten the route by 5.5 miles: R on Elliot Lane 0.8Mi, Straight on Horsenden Rd 1.5Mi, L on Rt 32 South [HH] 0.1Mi, R on Old Kingston Rd 1.4Mi, R on Huguenot St 1.4Mi to Main St / Rt 299 and finish.  But Horsenden Rd can get significant motor vehicle traffic, and has curves, dips, hills with no shoulders -- which raises traffic interaction risk. [not checked by us since 1998]
